Daniel Kurt is a dedicated painter with a murky montage aesthetic, both adding and obliterating images from collective culture at will. His references, which bely a vast field of study for such a young artist, range from cartoon/comic references, both popular and obscure, to early punk records, and arcane historical events. Close observers will note that there is an unwieldy personal narrative at work here, one that ricochets off the absurdities of pop sexual innuendo and religious extremism, all in allusion to a rich mental world navigating both acquired knowledge and experience.
